STUDENT PROGRAMS

Summer Session (June - July)

Grades 7-9

The student’s Breakthrough journey begins in the program’s intensive, fun-filled summer session. For six weeks, they work to gain confidence in their academic abilities and develop character-driven leadership skills for lifelong achievement. Students focus on their love for learning, expectations for excellence, hard work, team skills and community.

Grade 10

Students step up to the Sophomore Summer Series. Here, they put their academic and leadership skills to use and their college bound programming is launched. Students participate in valuable SAT prep training classes, strengthen their communication skills in creative writing workshops and heighten their leadership development through an all-team service project.

Grades 11-12

Staying focused on their college bound journey, juniors continue accruing college knowledge for the admission process while seniors focus on applying to schools and funding programs plus learning about first-year challenges. Building their resumes, juniors and seniors also have the opportunity to gain life experiences as volunteers and assistants in the program. The Breakthrough summer session thrives with the help of these young leaders, and the older students gain skills in the leadership roles and projects they fulfill.

School Year Super Saturdays (September-May)

Grades 7-9

Just as critical as the summer program, the school-year program provides continued support and enrichment for students from August to May. Morning sessions include an academic component and a team or enrichment activity.

Grades 10-11

College bound topics become the focus as the Breakthrough students grow and move through high school. Sophomores and juniors become familiar with the college admissions process, including how to research schools, the steps of application, building a resume, writing essays and more. They review degree options, explore career fields and talk about the variety of funding options open to them.

Grade 12

In their final year, seniors put all of their college bound knowledge to work. They submit applications, seek funding and start outlining and preparing for their first semester of college.

Academic Tutoring

Tutoring is available during the school year and arranged as needed. Students requiring assistance to meet Breakthrough’s minimum grade requirements will be assigned sessions as needs are determined. Students may also request additional coaching in specific subjects and every effort will be made to accommodate those needs. We offer a drop-in tutoring program each Monday after school from 5-7 p.m.
